Snowboarding and Skiing Gear
Deciding Between Snowboarding Skiing: Which Is Best?
The decision of whether to go skiing or snowboarding can certainly be a tough one. It all depends on what you want to do basically and what type of person you are. While they may seem like similar sports they are actually quite different. Your body may actually be physically suited more to one sport or the other.
Snowboarding is much more strenuous on the legs and knees so if you have bad knees you may want to stick with skiing. Taller people often find it a bit harder to get their balance on a snowboard but then they are also often able to get more air because they have more power. Most people just have an automatic personal preference between skiing and snowboarding. You may find that skiing comes somewhat naturally to you but then feel totally awkward on a snowboard.
A lot of elderly people who want to participate in a winter sport tend to go for skiing over snowboarding. This is because they are able to rely on their ski poles to move them along rather than resting entirely on their physical strength. People tend to be more drawn to one sport or the other just for the sake of it. Older aged people often prefer skiing because you get a lot of help from your ski poles.
Cross country skiing in particular is great for the elderly because it allows them to still get involved in the sport but then at the same time not have to rely so much on the power of their own body. The younger generation is much more into snowboarding.Skiing is still an extremely physical sport but doing straight runs and moving slowly across the snow on your skis is far less exerting than doing a regular run on a snowboard. For skiing you will need skis and ski poles.
You will need a bit different gear depending on what sport you want to get started in. Goggles also help by giving you a clearer field of vision when you are out there in the fog and snow. It is pretty much the same amount of equipment you will need for both sports so there is not much of a cost difference in getting started with either winter sport. Everyone has their own preference and of course you can also enjoy both as many people do and just decide to go skiing or snowboarding whenever you feel like it.
